I worked during the Georgetown Palace Education Center Theatre summer camps! As a stage manager for the children's productions of Zombies: The Musical and Seussical Jr., I led multiple children’s musical productions, managing groups of 20+ participants aged from 5 years old to 16 years old while overseeing blocking, props, costumes, rehearsal reports and performance logistics. It was a great lesson on time management and patience with tiny performers with big emotions. It took lots of energy, hard work, and caffeine.
As a company manager, I was solely in charge of watching over children ages 5-9 while they rehearsed for their Cookies: The Musical. My responsibilities included managing their schedules, dance rehearsals, blocking, lunch, and game time. Most importantly, keeping them alive and happy. It was a wonderful experience.
I was the instructor for the middle school class, learning the fundamentals of acting. I taught them character-building, world-building, beats, and the basics of performing. Each student was given a monologue for them to work on, and create a character for. I taught them for 16 weeks and it ended with an amazing performance showcase for their parents. I am truly proud of my students growth.
As part of my senior thesis, I researched and created a lesson plan that I believed would make learning Shakespeare more approachable for modern students. I got to teach a full class of high school students, and their growth and confidence by the end of the class was amazing. They learned the ticks to understanding the language and meaning.
